چکیده

This paper motivates and introduces a two-stage method for estimating diffusion processes based on discretely sampled observations. In the first stage we make use of the feasible central limit theory for realized volatility, as recently developed in Barndorff-Nielsen and Shephard (2002), to provide a regression model for estimating the parameters in the diffusion function. In the second stage the in-fill likelihood function is derived by means of the Girsanov theorem and then used to estimate the parameters in the drift function. Consistency and asymptotic distribution theory for these estimates are established in various contexts. The finite sample performance of the proposed method is compared with that of the approximate maximum likelihood method of Aı̈t-Sahalia (2002). JEL Classification: C13, C22, E43, G13

A two-stage realized volatility approach to estimation of diffusion processes with discrete data

This paper motivates and introduces a two-stage method of estimating diffusion processes based on discretely sampled observations. In the first stage we make use of the feasible central limit theory for realized volatility, as developed in [Jacod, J., 1994. Limit of random measures associated with the increments of a Brownian semiartingal. Working paper, Laboratoire de Probabilities, Universite...

Realized Volatility in Noisy Prices: a MSRV approach

Volatility is the primary measure of risk in modern finance and volatility estimation and inference has attracted substantial attention in the recent financial econometric literature, especially in high-frequency analyses. High-frequency prices carry a significant amount of noise. Therefore, there are two volatility components embedded in the returns constructed using high frequency prices: the...

Modeling Gold Volatility: Realized GARCH Approach

F orecasting the volatility of a financial asset has wide implications in finance. Conditional variance extracted from the GARCH framework could be a suitable proxy of financial asset volatility. Option pricing, portfolio optimization, and risk management are examples of implications of conditional variance forecasting. One of the most recent methods of volatility forecasting is Real...

Analysis of Realized Volatility in Tehran Stock Exchange using Heterogeneous Autoregressive Models Approach

Objective: The present study aims atinvestigating the behavior of realized volatility for high-frequency data of Tehran Stock Index from April28th, 2012 to August 8th, 2018. Methods: Three different types of HAR models including of HAR-RV-CJ, HAR-RV and HAR-RVJ were used to analyze the Realized Volatility. Results: The obtained results of three diverse models revealed that the estimated Reali...

Least squares volatility change point estimation for partially observed diffusion processes

A one dimensional diffusion process X = {Xt, 0 ≤ t ≤ T }, with drift b(x) and diffusion coefficient σ(θ, x) = √ θσ(x) known up to θ > 0, is supposed to switch volatility regime at some point t∗ ∈ (0, T ). On the basis of discrete time observations from X , the problem is the one of estimating the instant of change in the volatility structure t∗ as well as the two values of θ, say θ1 and θ2, bef...
